Thanksgiving, Part 5

2 Co. 9:15  “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”

The indescribable gift is Christ’s atoning sacrifice on the cross.  God is the first and perfect gift giver.  God’s incomprehensible generosity in providing all our physical and spiritual needs clears the way (and should inspire) us to give generously so that others’ physical and spiritual needs are met.  Our giving should be done out of a sense of gratitude for all that God has done for us–and sometimes it is; but often it is one more thing hurriedly done as we race out the door on Sunday morning.  Perhaps, just as we take the opportunity of the Lord’s supper to focus our hearts on Christ’s death on the cross, we should use the opportunity of the weekly offering to focus our attention on all God has provided for us and respond in thankfulness.  I think I’ll give it a try this Sunday.
